Arizona State Senator T.J. Shope (R-Ariz.) recently announced the allocation of a $95 million grant from the federal government, aimed at widening and improving a section of Interstate 10 between Chandler and Casa Grande. The statement was released on January 22nd.

Shope expressed his commitment to this project, stating, "I've dedicated the last several years of my service at the Legislature to securing the dollars needed to create a safer and faster commute for those who rely on this notoriously dangerous stretch of Interstate 10 between Chandler and Casa Grande." He further added, "This federal grant will help make the dreaded rush hour drive through my district a little less painful and will help support the economic growth our state continues to enjoy from the Republican policies implemented over the last decade."

Governor Katie Hobbs also addressed this development on January 22, revealing that Arizona would receive an Infrastructure For Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant from the US Department of Transportation for this project. According to Governor Hobbs' press release, this improvement project will span a 26-mile stretch of Interstate 10, all located within the Gila River Indian Community. This section is reportedly the last remaining area of Interstate 10 requiring improvements and has been known to cause traffic delays and hazardous driving conditions.

Shope's public service career began when he was elected to the Coolidge Unified School District Governing Board in 2008. He served on this board until his election to the Arizona State Senate in 2020.

Currently residing in Coolidge, Arizona with his wife Melissa, Shope manages his family’s business, Shope’s IGA Supermarket. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Arizona State University.
